GoHighLevel AI Receptionist That Answers the Calls You Miss

Voice AI answers when your team cannot, asks the questions your team would ask, and books the appointment into your calendar. Quoted and scoped per business, not a fixed-price product.

Most Missed Calls Never Call Back

A missed call is not a voicemail waiting to be returned. Most callers do not leave a message. They hang up and call the next business on the list. By the time someone in your team sees the missed call and rings back, the job is often gone.

This is worse after hours. A roofer gets calls during a storm on a Saturday night. A clinic gets calls at 8pm. A salon gets calls on a Sunday. Nobody is at the desk, and the caller has no reason to wait until Monday.

An AI receptionist does not fix your staffing. It fixes the gap between the call coming in and a person being free to take it.

What the AI Receptionist Actually Does

GoHighLevel Voice AI is part of the AI Employee suite. It sits on your GoHighLevel number, answers calls, and works inside the same account as your contacts, calendars, and pipelines, so a booking made by the AI shows up where your team already works.

Answers the missed call

When nobody picks up, Voice AI answers in seconds, greets the caller by your business name, and takes the call instead of sending it to voicemail. Most callers do not leave a message and do not call back. This is the call that usually gets lost.

Asks the qualifying questions

I write the questions your team would ask: what do you need, where are you based, when do you need it, what is your budget range. The AI asks them in plain language, listens to the answer, and records it on the contact.

Books into your calendar

If the caller qualifies, the AI offers open times from your GoHighLevel calendar and books the appointment. The contact gets the confirmation by SMS, the calendar entry is created, and your team sees the booking in the pipeline.

Hands off to a human

When a caller asks for a person, or the call goes somewhere the script does not cover, the AI hands over. It can transfer the call, take a message with the details, or flag the contact for a callback, depending on how we set it up.

Logs everything

Every call lands on the contact record with a transcript and a summary: what the caller wanted, whether they booked, and what happens next. Your team reads the summary instead of replaying a voicemail.

Works after hours

The AI answers at 9pm on a Sunday the same way it answers at 10am on a Tuesday. For home services, clinics, and salons, that is often when the calls come in, and it is exactly when nobody is at the desk.

How I Set It Up

The setup is mostly writing and testing, not clicking. A Voice AI that reads from a bad script gives bad answers, and a bad answer on a live call is worse than a missed call. Most setups take 1 to 3 weeks.

Step 01

Listen to your real calls

I start with how your team actually answers the phone: the questions you ask first, the answers that qualify a caller, and the ones that rule them out. The script is written from that, not from a template.

Step 02

Write the script and the rules

Greeting, qualifying questions, booking rules, and the handover rules for when the AI should stop and pass the call to a person. Business hours and after-hours get different rules.

Step 03

Connect calendar and follow-up

The AI books into your GoHighLevel calendar, sends the confirmation SMS, and moves the opportunity in the pipeline. Missed-call text-back is wired in alongside, so a dropped call still gets a message within a minute.

Step 04

Test with real calls

I test the full range before it goes live: a normal booking, a reschedule, a caller who asks for a person, a caller who gives an unclear answer, and a spam call. Then we listen to the first week of live calls together and fix what sounds wrong.

What an AI Receptionist Costs

There are two costs, and I keep them separate. GoHighLevel charges for the AI itself. I charge for the setup, quoted per business.

AI Employee Starter

$20/mo

Announced at LevelUp 2026. The lowest entry point into AI Employee, per sub-account. Details were still emerging when it was announced, so I confirm the current limits before quoting around it.

AI Employee Growth

$50/mo

Per sub-account. Includes 1,000 Conversation AI replies and 100 Voice AI minutes a month. The usual starting point for a business that takes a steady flow of calls.

AI Employee Unlimited

$97/mo

Per sub-account. Covers Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, and Content AI on a fair-use basis. The right choice when call volume is high or unpredictable.

On top of the plan: phone charges are billed separately by GoHighLevel, and Voice AI pay-per-use pricing also exists for businesses that prefer to pay per minute instead of a monthly plan. My setup work is quoted and scoped per business, not a fixed-price product. GoHighLevel platform plans are separate: Starter $97 a month, Unlimited $297 a month, Founder $497 a month (formerly Agency Pro / SaaS Pro), with a 14-day free trial. Prices as of November 2026, check gohighlevel.com for the latest.

Related work: GoHighLevel automation covers the workflows the AI hands off to, and the missed-call text-back guide explains the SMS side of the same problem. The hub is at GoHighLevel setup and automation.

What an AI Receptionist Is Not

It is not a person, and it should not be sold as one. It handles the calls your team already handles the same way every time: greeting, qualifying, booking. It does not handle complaints, negotiations, or anything where judgement matters. Those go to a person, by design.

It also does not fix a bad phone setup. If your number is not registered properly, or your calendar is a mess, the AI will book into the wrong times and confirm the wrong things. I check the number setup and the calendar before the AI goes live, and if either needs fixing first, I say so.

AI Receptionist Questions, Answered

Two costs, kept separate. GoHighLevel charges for AI Employee: Growth $50 a month per sub-account, or Unlimited $97 a month per sub-account, and a Starter plan at $20 a month was announced at LevelUp 2026. Phone charges are billed separately on top, and Voice AI pay-per-use pricing also exists. My setup work is quoted and scoped per business, not a fixed-price product, because the script, the qualifying questions, the calendar rules, and the handover setup are different for every business. You get a fixed quote before work starts.

Both are charged per sub-account. Growth is $50 a month per sub-account and includes 1,000 Conversation AI replies and 100 Voice AI minutes a month. Unlimited is $97 a month per sub-account and covers Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, and Content AI on a fair-use basis. Which one fits depends on how many calls and messages your business takes in a month. Phone charges are billed separately on top of either plan.

The AI speaks naturally and handles a normal booking conversation well, but it is not a person, and I do not set it up to pretend to be one. The greeting names your business, and if a caller asks for a person, the call hands over. The honest test is simple: a caller who gets booked and confirmed is happy, whether the voice was human or not.

It hands over instead of guessing. I write the script with clear limits: if the caller asks about price beyond the range we set, a medical question, a complaint, or anything the script does not cover, the AI takes a message with the details and flags the contact for a callback. A wrong answer is worse than a missed one.

They work together, not instead of each other. The AI answers the call when it can. If the call drops, or the caller hangs up before booking, missed-call text-back sends an SMS straight after, so the lead still gets a message within a minute. I set both up in the same workflow, so a lead is never left with nothing.

Most setups take 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the script and the calendar rules. The build is quick; the testing is what takes the time. I test with real calls: booking, rescheduling, a caller who asks for a person, a caller who gives a wrong answer, and a spam call. Your timeline is agreed before work starts.

How Many Calls Did You Miss This Week?

Tell me how many calls come in, how many go unanswered, and what a booking is worth to you. I will come back with a scope, a timeline, and a fixed quote for the setup, with no obligation.
